Sudden, Unexpected Astral Projections
As we move along through that inner journey such experiences can surprise us. Outside any formal meditation, no crossed-legged straight-backed mindfulness, they appear unannounced like surprise guests at the door, gifts in hand. One of those gifts can be a mild obe, where what I suspect is the mental body, flips away from the active physical, – like household chores, errands and driving, – and gives visions, like yourself engaged in the current activity, viewed from above or some vaguer beyond, where you know without question, that’s you over there absorbed in your purpose, playing out one of the roles in the game., doing your bit for family, career or society.
As flashes or a series of flashes they can be thrilling, disturbing, mysterious. But after a few, maybe over the years, you get used to their contribution, lining them up with your other mystical adventures as rewards for living on through the turbulence and madness with the promise of great things to come. The promise that is hinted at by your astral adventures during sleep, some lucid some fuzzy, with their surreal encounters and great-to-see-you-again chatter. It seems to me the flashes are tiny postcards from the paradise beyond, reminders of your status in the circus of planes in which we are participants.
I had one the other day: driving along a regular neighborhood route, from point a to point b, I could see my writer self, with desk and papers preoccupied. Then, in seconds, I could see the spirit flee that body and fly into others, in other epochs and societies, women and men of many social positions and states of mind, many recognizable from ‘my’ experience of past lives, touching them with whatever level of divine interference they could absorb at their time and place. Then a vision of that spirit flying onward and up to that level beyond levels, the consciousness of eternity, of formlessness, of ‘the void’ or ‘god’, where bodies, characters, civilizations and souls are mere reference points in the ancient game.
Then I was driving up my street and parking. This miniseries of flashes recurred to me like some meteor orbiting, until now when I bought it back to earth by putting the words onto that modern day version of paper, the doc file. Reliving the experience through these words I was reminded of another version from 2012, noted in my book Embracing your Divinity Instead Of Your Doubt, the essay The Ten Second Ascension. Let’s make a comparison; “Sounds crazy I know. But it’s been happening of late, sudden rushes of consciousness up that ladder of awareness from the daily self to the astral self to the mental self, to the causal, buddhic and monadic: all those bigger, wider, faster vibrating bodies that are us on other levels. I can be walking along, minding my own business as they say, or driving in city traffic, sitting idle at a red light, times when I usually wonder about groceries, lunch, gardening or bills. Suddenly the everyday Gordon, with all his petty issues and upsets, is gone, replaced by a transcendent understanding that knows no bounds and has no cares as it looks out over all horizons and apparent limitations into a boundless eternity of knowing and knowing nothing matters. From this carefree bliss I am plunged back and down into the busy chatter of things to do, places to go and things to say when you get there.”
Later I concluded with this: “Most often on the inner journey one is handed only those experiences one is ready for. Guides and teachers are aware of your progress and only wish to sharpen your skills at a rate already calibrated to your learning curve. But once in a while you will get a curveball, fully intended to throw you off balance and force you out of your comfort zone. And these sudden shock projections may be just that. And if they are, I am glad to be present at the unveiling. Maybe they are saying: forget about fairies, angels, past lives and the ‘dead’. Try this drop of divinity and take it back to where you came from, five seconds ago when you thought all was boringly well. Take it back and pass it around.”
Please do pass it around, it does not belong to me, it’s a gift to be shared freely.
