Our planet is not large enough to sustain the current population. Humans went through a massive population explosion in recent years and our numbers are far too large for our planet to have the resouces to sustain us.
The global population has grown from 1 billion in the early 1800’s to more than 8 billion in 2023. If we continue to grow at this rate, we would have well over 11 billion in just over 75 years! That means that the children on the planet today will live in this extreme overpopulation in about 75 years.
John Calhoun, an American scientist did an experiment into overcrowding in 1968. Calhoun introduced four healthy, perfectly matched pairs of mice into a specially designed pen. The pen was truly a “Garden of Eden”. It had plenty of food and water, specially designed mice apartments, and no natural predators to fear.
For a time, all was perfect in the “garden”. The mice thrived and reproduced quickly. In about a year the garden began to be very overpopulated. There weren’t enough apartments for all to live comfortably and some mice became homeless. Even though there was plenty of food, the mice constantly fought violently over it and many mice starved to death. The larger and stronger mice became aggressive killing the weaker mice and/or biting off their tails.
Then, a new class of male rodents appeared that were beautiful and healthy but all they wanted to do was groom themselves and look good. They were metrosexual mice. They had no desire to mate, raise young or establish a role within society. As time went on, juvenile mortality reached 100% and reproduction reached zero.
Among the endangered mice, homosexuality was suddenly observed, and, at the same time, cannibalism increased, even though there was plenty of food. According to Calhoun, the death phase consisted of two stages: the “first death” and “second death.” The former was characterized by the loss of purpose in life beyond mere existence.
Two years after the start of the experiment, the last baby of the garden was born. By 1973, the baby had grown up and killed the last mouse in the Universe 25. He was now alone. Calhoun repeated this exact experiment 25 times and each time he saw the exact same result.
Calhoun started this experiment to show the devastating consequences of overpopulation but much more came out of it. About halfway through the experiment, at the one-year mark, the mice began to act very similar to the way humans are acting right now in our civilization. We have lost our purpose in life, and we have more depressed people that ever before on the planet. We have gone through, “the first death”. We have parents abusing their children more than ever. We have mass shootings every single day. We are following a path almost exactly like the mice did in their garden. We are witnessing direct parallels to the Universe 25 experiments in today’s society.
So, when you wonder why the world has gotten so “crazy”, Calhoun gave us the answer years before we reached this state of overpopulation on the planet, but nobody paid attention.
