On April 8th, 2024, the stage will be set for a breathtaking display as the moon casts its shadow upon the Earth offering an eclipse that promises to awe and inspire. The path of totality will sweep across North America, offering varying durations of totality for different regions.
The areas fortunate enough to experience the longest durations of totality will be in the central regions of the United States, particularly in states like Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and New York. Here in Arkansas, we will witness the sun’s corona shining brightly for up to an impressive 4 minutes and 28 seconds. Our state is expecting thousands of visitors. Our state parks, hotels, and rentals are all booked with people coming to see the eclipse.
Interestingly, the upcoming eclipse on April 8th, 2024, shares a fascinating connection with the solar eclipse that occurred seven years prior, on August 21st, 2017. Both eclipses belong to the same Saros series, a cycle of eclipses that repeats approximately every 18 years and 11 days.
The 2017 eclipse carved a path from coast to coast in the USA and the 2024 eclipse will follow the opposite trajectory forming a cross over the city of Salem, Illinois. Salem will find itself in the center of attention as eager eclipse chasers visit the city in April to witness this cosmic spectacle.
Other cities fortunate enough to be in the path of totality include Indianapolis, Indiana; Cleveland, Ohio; Buffalo, New York; and Montreal, Quebec. Each of these locales will offer unique vantage points for observers to witness the moon’s shadow as it traverses the landscape, leaving a trail of wonder in its wake.
Eclipses are viewed as potent moments for introspection, transformation, and energetic shifts. Eclipses amplify the effects of cosmic energies, making them ideal times for rituals, meditation, or setting intentions for personal growth. They are often associated with endings and beginnings, suggesting that they mark pivotal moments for shedding old patterns and embracing new possibilities.
This is a great eclipse app. You put in your zip code and it shows your exact times for viewing.
